Officer Elections 2015/2016

Postby mindtailor » Tue Mar 24, 2015 10:04 am

It's that time of the year again where we prepare for elections! Elections will be held on April 16th. Because a lot of us are graduating or getting ready to graduate, we need a lot of new people to run for office!

Elected positions are President, Vice President, Scribe, Public Relations, and Communications.

Being an officer is a lot of work. Most of you probably have no idea what goes on in the background, but I think you would be surprised. Not only do we have to prepare each week for meetings, we have a TON of outside events that we do. There are Organization Fairs, various special UNT events, as well as community service projects like CANstruction. We also attend many conventions in the DFW area where we run a booth and host panels and games. Officers are always busy with something and if you are elected you are expected to make all events. You would be expected to put in 110%, be enthusiastic, and have a real drive to help the organization grow. Officers are expected to put in 5-10 hours a week outside of meetings.

We are not only one of the largest anime clubs in the U.S., but we are certainly one of the most active clubs as well! MEK is making a name for itself and it can only get bigger and better. We need people who want to do their part to make it excel more than it already has! It can be a lot of responsibility, but it's worth it in the end!

Please note that you must be at least going into your second year at UNT by the Fall and be a student in good standing.

If you just want to put the name on your resume when you graduate, don't apply.

Here are brief summary of some of the responsibilities of each office:

The head honcho. This person is in charge of just about everything. They have to make sure people are on track and getting their jobs done. This person plans meetings each week as well as any and all events MEK does, including all paperwork, scheduling, and networking with University entities. This person should be someone who is sociable and quick to think when crazy situations arise. If running for this office you need to be prepared for the insane amount of responsibility that comes with it.

Vice President
This position is basically the right hand man (or woman) to the president. Think of it as Picard's 'Number 1'. You help keep meetings on track (weekly and officer) as well as keep the president updated with events coming up and be the top supporter for the president. In the event the president cannot run a meeting, it's the VP's job to take over.

This person needs to be good at taking notes. In this position you would keep track of events and anything that is coming up. You take a head count multiple times each meeting, keep track of all the 'paperwork' on what's going on, who's won raffles, what was covered at the meetings. The scribe also keeps a schedule in the Admin forums of what's going on at each meeting and updates it each week.

Public Relations
This is the person who creates and posts flyers all around campus and surrounding areas. It's not a one time deal. This person keeps up with flyers all year, constantly replacing any that have been taken down. This person should probably have a good sense of where things are on campus as they will be walking and taking buses all around. This person should be happy to interact with people and be able to answer any questions they might have.

This person helps the president with the mailing list as well as screening permission from companies. This person needs really know their way around the internet, and not be awkward about it. This person is THE representative of MEK online and should have a good grasp of online etiquette and grammar.

This person creates the budget and presents it to the President and other officers at the start of the semester, keeps it updated throughout the semester, updates the member list, and takes all payments from members for dues, sports team fees, etc. This person must be organized, trustworthy, and good with handling money. Due to the nature of the job, Treasurer is an inherited position - in order to become treasurer, you must express interest and communicate with the current treasurer.

Please keep in mind that all of these offices are intertwined. You don't have have one job. You will be expected to do all kinds of jobs. Each week brings different things to the table. All officers are expected to make every meeting and all events.

Everyone running for a position is expected to give a short speech. It would also be a good idea to make sure you attend all meetings once you have signed up. Keep in mind that at the current officers can deny your self-nomination at any time if they see fit. If you have caused any major problems in the past, be it through attitude or actions, this might affect you.

If you're interested in becoming an officer, start thinking about it now! MEK needs you! We will have self nominations available at the next two meetings. If you want to run for an office, you must nominate yourself by April 9th at the end of the meeting, and stay after the meeting to talk to the current officers.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or talk to me at the meeting.
